Our History

Fransalian Vidya Niketan

Fransalian Vidya Niketan (FVNK) was founded in Khamgaon, Maharashtra, by Rev. Fr. P. V. Joseph MSFS, who purchased a significant size of a plot at in the year 1981 and registered the institution as a public charitable trust in 1982. A zealous Fransalian missionary devoted to the upliftment of the poorest of the poor, Fr. Joseph drew his inspiration from St. Francis de Sales, the patron of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) Congregation, and envisioned an Ashram that would hold together prayer, education, social service, and inter-religious harmony as one mission.
The early years asked for great courage. The land lay beside a public burial ground; after six in the evening no one was to be seen in the area. Fr. Joseph began with a small rented room in Khamgaon town, then with a bullock cart for travel, and slowly built up the campus that stands today. A well, divined on the property by Rev. Fr. Louis Chirakkal MSFS and dug at the very foundation of the centre, has never run dry. Within a few years the Ashram welcomed boarders from the surrounding villages, opened a small library, hosted the first inter-religious gathering on 25 October 1987, built fifty rehabilitation houses for the homeless of every caste and religion, took up a tribal mission at Rajura, and grew into a widely respected centre of dialogue and social work in the Vidarbha region.
St. Francis de Sales School and Junior College (CBSE), Khamgaon, is the most recent fruit of that legacy.

A Continued Legacy

On 4 May 2023, FVNK took a historic step by laying the foundation stone for a CBSE-affiliated school on its Khamgaon campus. The blessing was given by His Grace Most Rev. Elias Gonsalves, Archbishop of Nagpur, in the presence of Rev. Fr. John Britto Muthuswamy MSFS. Carrying forward the Fransalian motto of Knowledge, Love, and Service, the school works for the intellectual, cultural, moral, and physical growth of every child, and seeks to form what Saint Francis de Sales called the education of the human heart.
In the academic year 2025 to 26, the school enrolled 60 students from Nursery to Standard III. Children took part in poem recitations, fancy-dress events, rhyme contests, and a wide range of co-curricular activities. Regular orientation programmes for teachers and parents continue to strengthen the partnership between the school and every family it serves.
